Memorial Day is the kick off for summer and I couldn't be more excited. I am ready for warm weather, ice cream and pools. Some of my best memories as a kid are from summer. We had no "extra curricular activities" during the summer, so I never felt like I had to do anything I didn't want to. We went to the pool almost every day, played tennis, golf and went sailing... But, one of the things I loved most was hearing the ice cream truck drive around our neighborhood. My brother and I would both jump up and stare at each other if we thought we heard that song. See, we had it harder than more kids because our drive way was 200 feet long. So not only did we have to scramble to find change, but we also had to run a hell of a lot faster and farther than most kids to catch the truck. While my brother would switch it up and get whatever fruity or rainbow colored item they had, I don't think I ever got anything besides a fudgesicle in my entire life.
Now that I'm older and I can eat desserts all the time, I have broadened my horizons as far as flavor profiles go and I actually eat things besides chocolate. And these Orange Creamsicle Milkshakes fit right into a sweet and fruity craving, my brother would just love them. If you're looking for something sweet to serve at your Memorial Day BBQ or party these Orange Creamsicle Milkshakes are perfect. Not only are they adorable but they're equally delicious and you don't have to run in order to enjoy them. Find the recipe below!
Orange Cream Milkshake | Makes 2 Milkshakes
- 510 g. (18 oz. or 4 large scoops) organic Vanilla Bean Ice Cream (Straus Family Creamery is my favorite)
- 3/4 cup organic milk
- 2 tsp. organic orange flavor
- 1 tsp. ColorKitchen Orange Dye, optional (find here)
- 1/2 cup organic heavy whipping cream
- 7 g. (1/2 tsp.) organic sugar
- 1/2 tsp. organic vanilla extract
India Tree Nature's Colors All Natural Orange sprinkles, optional (find here)
First, make the whipped cream. Using your stand mixer with whisk attachment, or with a hand mixer, add the heavy whipping cream, sugar and vanilla extract to the mixing bowl.
Whisk slowly at first, then gradually turning up the speed as the whipped cream thickens until you are at full speed. Whisk until the whipped cream is thick and doesn’t fall off the whisk.
Put whipped cream in a piping bag with decorating tip #846.
In a blender, add the ice cream, milk, orange flavor and orange dye. Blend until you have a smooth and creamy milkshake.
Pour into milkshake glasses and top with whipped cream.
Top with sprinkles!
Baker's Note: To make this vegan, just use organic vanilla vegan ice cream (like Coconut Bliss) and use organic coconut milk instead of milk!
